Thanks and What’s Next?

The Hilltop Reporter has featured my weekly fishing article for several months, which I sincerely appreciate. The past article highlighted conventional methods of bass fishing using lures designed specifically for spinning and bait casting equipment. By request, all articles were written primarily for anglers fishing our local Canyon Lake. Listed below is a summary of much of the material cover. Many of these past articles can still be found on my website: teachemtofish.net.

  • Select spinning and/or bait casting rods and reels for specific applications.
  • The importance of line selection; including, weight class, monofilament, co-polymer, fluorocarbon, and spectra fiber lines.
  • The art of reading lakes and structure and then how that knowledge can be used for locating species specific bass, like smallmouth versus largemouth.
  • Canyon Lake map showing the Texas Parks and Wildlife fish attractors with GPS locations.
  • Seasonal patterns and how to fish with the jet boats and water skiers.
  • Various soft plastic worm riggings; including, Texas, Carolina, split shot, wacky, and drop shot rigs.
  • Cranking was covered showing the importance of size, shape, billed versus lipless, proper tuning, as well as, theories and proper application for using crankbaits.
  • Selecting topwater baits; when and how to use them.
  • Lastly was the four part series on using the most versatile lure in a bass angler’s arsenal, the spinnerbait.

Summer is over, kids are back in school, and the cooler fall weather is just around the corner. Therefore, fly fishing for bass on lakes and streams and trout fishing on the Guadalupe below Canyon Lake dam will be the main topics for the next several months.

I certainly hope the information published is both interesting and beneficial. I enjoy sharing my knowledge and then hearing back from folks saying how some bit of information presented helped them fill their creel. If you need an event or club meeting speaker, give me a call.
